With your own media server, you can curate it so that it only contains the media you want to watch and it can never be removed from the server without you knowing. However, the downside of using Netflix or Disney+ or any of the best streaming services is that titles can be suddenly removed from the platform. With streaming services, this practice became less desirable as you could just pay a subscription fee and get essentially the same benefits. They either kept them physically, with shelves littered with DVDs, or they ripped them onto USB sticks and kept them digitally on their computers.
